The Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Foundation is proud of its Student Sight Savers Program that replicates a program originally begun by Dr. Eve J. Higginbotham, Foundation Director of Outreach Services, at the University of Maryland Medical School. As part of this program, supervised medical school students conduct screenings for glaucoma and other eye diseases for high-risk groups.

Through its Student Sight Savers Program, the Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Foundation accomplishes two critical objectives. First, we utilize the enthusiasm and energy of the medical students to conduct hundreds of glaucoma screenings. Second, we expose these future physicians to the science of ophthalmology at a critical time in which many of them are just starting to think about their eventual specialties. Through its Student Sight Savers Program, the Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation helps many talented men and women make treating eye diseases their life's work.

The Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation actively promotes its Student Sight Saver Program at medical schools across the country. Presently, additional schools are under consideration, which will enable our Student Sight Savers Program to expand in the future.

The Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation, Inc., makes grants to cover the free screening of glaucoma in many different regions. Because of our agreements with our funding sources, no portion of a grant from the Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation, Inc., can be used to cover indirect expenses of a funded program such as a Student Sight Saver Program.
